How Does It Work?

Step 1 – Information Gathering

When you get in touch, we will ask for details about the problems you are having, information about your cat’s history and current lifestyle.  With your permission, we will also send our referral form to your vet to complete.  Once we have all the information, we will book a time for your initial consultation and will ask for payment to hold the date.  One important step closer to getting help.

Step 2 – Behaviour Assessment & Management Consultation

The Behaviour Assessment and Management Consultation is the first step for all behaviour cases. This 90-minute online consultation helps us build a full picture of your cat’s behaviour, emotional wellbeing, daily life, and any underlying factors that may be contributing to the challenges you are experiencing.

Together we will put supportive management strategies in place to reduce risk, stabilise the situation, and create a clear plan for moving forward.

Following the consultation, you will receive a written behaviour assessment and action plan, including essential management strategies and, where appropriate, changes to the environment, daily routines and interactions.

I will also send the referring vet a summary of the assessment, and liaise with them to discuss any medical issues, medication, supplements or diet change.

For straightforward or short lived behaviour problems, the strategies and recommendations from this initial consult are sometimes all that is needed to get everyone back on track, and no further support is needed. Once management has stabilised the situation, a programme of support and coaching is generally required for more complex or longstanding issues.

Step 3 – Coaching & Behaviour Change Programme

Behaviour change can take patience, time and consistency. Following the assessment, ongoing coaching sessions allow me to support you and your cat to achieve lasting behaviour change at a pace that feels manageable.

Support throughout your programme may include:

• Coaching sessions face-to-face or online

• Progress tracking via regular online meetings

• Written advice sheets, training protocols and videos

• Liaison with your veterinary practice where medication or medical conditions form part of the case

The behaviour change programme is tailored to both your cat and your everyday life.

I will take into account your previous experience, confidence, daily routines, and other demands on your time and energy. The aim is always to make progress feel achievable and sustainable, rather than overwhelming.

Over time, the goal is not simply to improve behaviour, but to help you feel increasingly confident and self-sufficient in understanding, supporting, and problem-solving with your cat going forward. Much of our work with cats involves understanding their needs and manipulating their environment and interactions in order to meet those needs.

At the end of your programme, progress will be reviewed together. Many owners feel ready to continue independently using the skills and strategies they have learned, while others choose ongoing support where beneficial.

Step 4 – Behaviour Change

Behaviour change is rarely instant, but with consistent support, appropriate management, and welfare-friendly training, meaningful progress is absolutely possible. My aim is to help you improve your cat’s behaviour as efficiently as possible, whilst protecting both welfare and your relationship with your cat throughout the process.

There are no quick fixes or magic wands, but reward-based, evidence-led behaviour treatment is proven to create lasting positive change without fear, pain, or intimidation.

What Does it Cost?

We will always try to be clear about our prices, nobody likes unexpected costs.

Fees for the Behaviour Assessment & Management Consult are £220*, which includes;

• Case preparation, research, reviewing of your video footage etc

• Liaising with the referring vet

• The 90 minute consultation

• Management strategies to help straight away

• Preparing and sending your behaviour assessment and management action plan

• Preparing and sending a summary report to the referring vet

• Liaising further with the vet and any other practitioners regarding treatment plans involving both medical and behavioural elements

• Completing and returning paperwork for pet insurance claims

* For multi-cat households, there is a fee of £55 per additional cat involved in the case

Fees for the coaching programmes vary between £50 - £97 per month, with the most commonly recommended packages being 3 - 6 months long. This includes;

• Generally two support / coaching sessions per month

• Email or WhatsApp support between sessions

• Continued liaison with the referring vet as needed

• Processing of continuation insurance claims
